Aim 1
Aim 2
Aim 3
Aim 4
Aim 4

To promote innovative training opportunities for systems biology and inquiry-based K-12 science education.

Aim 4, the Center´s education and training programs are designed to span a broad population: from educators and administrators (high school programs) to post-secondary professional development and training opportunities (Fellowships and post graduate level courses). Providing education and training programs across this continuum of the population has the potential to increase recruitment and retention in the education pipeline for systems biology. As importantly, Aim 4 provides ongoing education and training to current and the future generation of scientists.

To target under represented minorities and women in the education pipeline for systems biology, the Center affiliates with and leverages existing programs developed to increase the diversity and retention of under represented minorities in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. For example, in 2007 the Center affiliated with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded Physician Scientist Training Program at Temple University http://www.temple.edu/pstp/documents/PSTP%20Brochure%202007.pdf and the University of Washington s (UW), Making Connections program.

In 2008 the Center will continue it´s affiliation with programs designed to recruit and retain diverse and under represented minorities through the Physician Scientist Training Program at Temple University, the Making Connections program at University of Washington (UW), as well as and the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) funded UW, College of Engineering, GenOM Project http://depts.washington.edu/genomics/.
